警民一家親

週四中午我們迎來了一批德州休斯敦警察學院應屆畢業生學員五十多人,在位於西南區的一座教會接受文化課程之講座和訓練,我應邀出席向即將畢業的學員們介紹國際區之創設和近況。

最近出任市長的惠特曼市長他之施政首要任務就是整頓治安,他認為沒有良好之環境是無法讓市民安居樂業,更談不到商業發展。因此在他擔任市長之後即開始改善警察之待遇並且增加新的警力,尤其對亞裔少數族裔非常重視。

在當天之聚會中我首先歡迎這批年青的警員們加入我們國際區大家庭,我要特別感謝他們這羣年青朋友以犧牲奉獻之精神為社區作出奉獻，過去二十多年來,國際區取得之繁榮和進步和治安警察之貢獻有絕對之關係，我們要發揚警民一家親之精神,共同為社區作出奉獻。

二十多年來我們在社區領袖及工商界之共同努力下,國際區已經成為休斯敦社區之經濟楷模,我們竭誠歡迎這批年輕之治安生力軍,他們展現的笑容及英姿,是國家社會之棟樑。

A Family Of Police And Civilians

At noon on Thursday, we welcomed a group of more than fifty fresh graduates of the Houston Police Academy who came to a local Vietnamese church to receive training in cultural courses. I was invited to attend and introduced the International District to the new cadets.
Mayor Whitmire, who recently became mayor, has made the first task of his administration the rectifying of public safety. The mayor believes that without a good safety environment, it is impossible for citizens to live and work in peace. Therefore, right after he took office, the mayor began to improve the treatment of the police while increasing the number of new policemen, especially from within the Asian ethnic minorities.
I first welcomed this group of young cadets to join our international community. We are really impressed with these special graduates in this group of young people for their contributions and sacrifice and dedication. Over the past twenty years, the prosperity and progress of our community is especially due to a very strong and resolute relationship with the Houston Police Department that continues to make great contributions to our community.
The International District with the joint efforts of many community and business leaders, became one of the top economic models in the City of Houston.
